SAN BRUNO Calif. – Jake MacNichols earned Rawlings West Coast Conference Player of the Week honors after belting four home runs and driving in 11 runs in the four-game series sweep of San José State to open the 2020 season.
In the series, MacNichols posted a slash line of .412/.524/1.118, going deep in each game of the double header on Saturday and a pair in Sunday's series finale.
In the first game of the double header on Saturday, MacNichols hit the go-ahead two-run homer in the fifth inning in Santa Clara's 2-1 victory while playing left field.
MacNichols was the catcher in the second game and his three-run blast in the opening frame gave the Broncos a 3-0 lead in a game they would go on to win 13-2.
On Sunday, he blasted two more home runs and drove in a career-high five RBIs in the 18-4 triumph to complete the sweep over the Spartans to help Santa Clara race to a 4-0 start on the season, their best since 2012.
This is MacNichols' first Rawlings WCC Player of the Week honor.
