Baseball Signee Selected in the Fourth Round of 2020 MLB Draft

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball signee Case Williams was selected by the Colorado Rockies, his home state team, in the fourth round of the abbreviated 2020 Major Leagues Baseball First-Year Players Draft on Thursday.

Williams, the 110th overall pick in the draft, signed with the Broncos last fall. A total of just 160 selections were made over two days as the MLB shortened the draft from 40 rounds to five rounds this year amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 6-foot-3 right-hander from Douglas County High School in Castle Rock, Colorado struck out 134 batters over 94 innings in three varsity seasons. In 2019, Williams posted an 8-1 record with a 1.81 ERA while striking out 79 in 50.1 innings. He also played summer ball for the Rockies Senior Scout team.
