Eleven Baseball Student-Athletes Named WCC All-Academic; Highest Total Since At Least 2005
 
SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball had 11 student-athletes honored for their work in the classroom by the West Coast Conference, the highest total for the program since at least 2005.  
 
Freddie Erlandson was named to the All-Academic team with Tony Boetto, Brendan Ecklebarger, Blake Faddoul, Connor Henriques, Travis Howard, Ryan McCarthy, Matt McGarry, Austin Reyes, Alex Tisminezky and Julian Tristan named honorable mentions.  
 
To be recognized, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade point average based on the most recently completed term, have at least sophomore athletic and academic standing with at least one year in residence completed.  
 
Erlandson, who is working toward a master of arts in educational leadership earned a 4.0 GPA and did not allow a run in 16.1 innings in the shortened 2020 campaign while holding opponents to a .190 batting average.  This was the second all-academic recognition for Erlandson who was named honorable mention back in 2018.  
 
Boetto has a 3.473 GPA as a finance major.  The junior played in 13 of 17 games including 10 starts behind the dish and finished the season with a team-high tying six-game hit streak.  Boetto also earned honorable mention recognition in 2019.  
 
Ecklebarger is a communication major with a 3.579 GPA and will graduate this spring.  The left-handed pitcher appeared in one game in relief against Sacramento State (March 1) and retired left-handed batter Ryan Walstad who had twice homered in the series.
 
Faddoul, a sophomore, has a 3.259 GPA in accounting.  He played in five of 17 games including a start against San Jose State (Feb. 15) and knocked in two runs on a double and scored a run.
 
Another sophomore, Henriques, has a 3.315 GPA in accounting.   The opening day third baseman started in all 17 games and collected the game-winning hits in back-to-back games against nationally-ranked Georgia and Sacramento State.
 
Howard, McCarthy, McGarry and Reyes are all working towards a master of arts in educational leadership.
 
Howard, who has a 4.0 GPA, led the team in wins (three) and strikeouts (21).
 
McCarthy with his 3.95 GPA started in all 17 games and led the team in batting average (.319) and hits (23) while finishing second on the team in RBIs (18).
 
McGarry boasted a 4.0 GPA and appeared in four games while striking out 14 batters in 14 innings.
 
Reyes also has a 4.0 GPA and played in 11 of 17 games including seven starts as the designated hitter.
 
Tisminezky is a communication major with a 3.407 GPA and will graduate this spring.  The right-handed pitcher tied for the team-lead with seven appearances with six coming out of the bullpen and finished with a 2-0 record and one save.
 
Tristan, a sophomore, has a 3.203 GPA in communication who made two appearances on the mound last season.
