NORMAN, Okla. – Jack Avrit and Matt McCarty of Santa Clara men's golf were recognized for their performance in the classroom.
Avrit and McCarty were named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
To be eligible, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically with a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I and a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.20. The participation requirement for 2019-20 was reduced to 40 percent of the team's tournaments due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
McCarty, a senior who will return to the team in the fall, competed in all seven events during 2019-20 with top 10 showings in three. He posted a 71.19 scoring average, first on the team.
Arvit, a junior, participated in four events, all in the spring, and posted a 73.42 scoring average.
Those two Broncos were among the three named to the 2019-20 West Coast Conference All-Academic team.
The team was also recognized by the GCAA for having a GPA of at least 3.0. The Broncos were at 3.28 during 2019-20.
