Men’s Golf Sixth After 36 Holes Of Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational

STOCKTON, Calif. – Aided by senior Matt McCarty's 4-under 68, Santa Clara men's golf carded a second-round 285 finishing 36 holes of the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational in sixth-place with a 2-under 574 team total.

With favorable playing conditions scores improved on Tuesday and the Broncos finished three-shots better than their opening-round 288. Still, it dropped them two spots on the leaderboard. Meanwhile, San Jose State maintained its advantage and took the clubhouse lead by four-swings over charging BYU.

"Another mediocre round put us in a mediocre position," head coach Rob Miller said of his team's score. "We're not in a bad spot, but we didn't take advantage of the day like other teams did."

McCarty flourished after the turn playing the back nine at 4-under that included an eagle on the par-5 11th and a pair of birdies. He jumped nine spots on the leaderboard into a tie for fifth with a two-round total of 4-under 140.

"Matt played great," Miller said. "He was dialed in on the back-nine."

Junior Berk Harvey matched yesterday's score with a 1-under 71 to maintain a share of ninth-place at 2-under 142.

Cruising along through the first 16 holes at 3-under, junior Zack Kaneshiro ran into trouble on the 17th taking a triple ending the day at even-par 72. His 36-hole total of 2-over 146 leaves him tied for 38th.

Konrad Brauckmeyer carded a 2-over 74 and is tied for 45th with a 3-over 147. "He struggled with his putting," Miller said of his sophomore. "He turned a 2-under into a 2-over."

Freshman Alex Conley (73-77) is tied for 61st at 150. Oscar Zimmerman (71-77), another first-year player competing as an individual owns a share of 50th at 148.

"Our goal is to stay close to BYU," Miller said about the No. 5 ranked team in the country and fellow WCC member. "We're only seven shots back and anything can happen tomorrow."

Final-round action at the 7,315-yard, par-72 Reserve at Spanos Park gets underway with tee times from holes No. 1 and No. 10 at 7:45 a.m. PT. Live scoring is available by clicking here.
