Avrit T-3rd, Broncos Finish Sixth At Arizona Intercollegiate

TUCSON, Ariz. - Following an opening round 65, senior Jack Avrit tallied 11 birdies over the final two rounds to card a career-low 12-under 65-69-70--204 and finish in a career-best tie for third at the 2022 Arizona Intercollegiate held at the par-72 Tucscon Country Club on Tuesday. 

Avrit, who led the 80-man field following the opening round, tallied a 3-under 69 second round that bridged both days after being suspended prematurely on Monday due to darkness. He followed with a 2-under 70 to hold on for the first top-three finish of his collegiate career. 

The Broncos as a team used an 8-under 280 final round to jump two spots into sole possession of sixth place, their top finish of the season. 

Alex Conley had a big final round at 4-under 67 to jump 22 places to a tie for 39th alongside Berk Harvey (74-73-70--217). Conley carded five birdies in the final round. 

Oscar Zimmerman (74-74-72--220) tied for 52nd while Konrad Brauckmeyer (73-74-78--225) tied for 67th. 

Host-Arizona won the tournament for the fifth-straight year with a final tally of 35-under 829. New Mexico finished a stroke behind while No. 5 Arkansas took third place at 29-under 835. 

Arizona's Christian Banke took home medalist honors after carding a 6-under 66 final round to finish two strokes ahead of Avrit at 14-under6 67-69-66. 

NOTES

  • The tournament featured five teams ranked in the top 40 in the Golfstat Rankings. The Broncos beat out a pair of them (No. 30 San Francisco and No. 39 Duke).
  • Santa Clara tied for the fourth-most birdies (61) and third-most eagles (4).
