Harvey Ties For 7th, Broncos Take Fifth At WCC Championship

HENDERSON, Nev. - Santa Clara senior men's golfer Berk Harvey finished strong at the West Coast Conference Championship, wrapping up play with a 2-under 70 final round to tie for seventh at 4-under 74-68-70--212. His finish is the best by a Bronco individual in the WCC Championship since Hayden Shieh tied for first before falling in a playoff at the 2017 championship.

Harvey turned in four birdies as part of his final round. The senior, who had the lowest stroke average on the team entering the tournament at 73.60, finished the year on a high note with back-to-back top-10 turnouts (t-3rd at the El Macero Classic).

Santa Clara as a team had their best day of the tournament on Saturday, shooting a 3-under 285. Jack Avrit and Zack Kaneshiro each recorded an eagle as part of a total of 20 sub-par holes. The Broncos finished in fifth place at 6-over 870.

Avrit particularly had a strong afternoon, carding a team-best 4-under 68 in a strong bounce back effort from his 79 in the second round. The senior rolled in seven birdies and eagled the par-5 No. 12.

Alejandro Gutierrez shot an even par 72 to lock down a top-15 finish, tying for 15th at 1-under 73-70-72--215. Avrit finished two strokes behind him in a tie for 21st at 1-over 70-79-68--217.

Kaneshiro finished in 40th at 14-over 78-75-77--230, but had one of the highlights of the day on the par-4 No. 4 hole. The Honolulu product rolled in his second shot for the elusive eagle.

No. 6 Pepperdine held off BYU and LMU for the championship title at 17-under 847 while LMU's Riley Lewis took home medalist honors at 7-under 69-70-70--209.
