UNIVERSITY PARK, Wash. - In the final event of their season, the Santa Clara men's golf team came within a few shots of a top three finish, before ultimately falling to sixth at the 2008 WCC Championships. All-WCC selection Scott Travers finished ninth for the Broncos, shooting a final round 76 to finish his tournament at seven-over and tied for 9th place.

"The conditions were very challenging, very windy and cold," said head coach Robert Miller. "You could say that the golf course won today."

Travers played the third round at even keel for the majority of it, and was just one-over after 14 holes, but went bogey, double-bogey, bogey on 15-17 before finishing his tournament with a birdie on 18.

Jonathan Keane led the Broncos after the first round with a 69 and was still in the top ten after his second round 77. In the third round, Keane got off to a rough start, going five-over in his first six holes. He corrected the course with a couple of birdies and managed to go three-over the rest of the way for an eight-over 80. Keane finished his tournament at +10 and tied for 14th place.

Tim Lynch placed third for Santa Clara at the WCC Championships. Lynch had a smooth start to his final round, shooting one-over through his front nine, but went four-over on his back nine to end up with a final round 77 that put him tied for 24th at +13.

"A 77 was a pretty good score for the kind of day it was today," said Miller.

Jimmy Cacho spent his first two rounds tied with Lynch and had a final round bookended by double-bogeys that gave him an 80 for the third round. Cacho finished the tournament at +16 and tied for 26th.

Alex Bon was the final Bronco competing at the WCC Championships. Bon played his first stretch of golf at even par before a rough back half of his front nine. Bon calmed things down near his finish, but came away with a third round score of 83. He finished in 37th at +23.

"Everyone played hard, we just didn't have our best tournament," said Miller. "On top of that, the conference was very tough this year. So really we're just looking forward to next year now."
