Santa Clara Men's Golfer Qualifies for US Amateur Tournament Championship

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Santa Clara men's golfer Scott Travers qualified to play in the US Amateur Tournament Championship on Aug. 20-26 at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, Calif. The US Amateur is the oldest USGA championship, and was originally played at the Newport Golf Club in Rhode Island in 1895.

The Trabuco Canyon, Calif. native was one of five players from the Big Canyon Country Club in Newport Beach, Calif. to become eligible for the tournament, scoring a 146 in the 36 hole qualifying tournament.

He is the second Bronco in the last two years to participate in the event. Jong Yoon represented Santa Clara in last year's championship held at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn. Yoon had a strong tournament, but fell one stroke short of the cut-off to advance.

Travers will be entering his sophomore year in the fall, and the Broncos men's golf season begins on Sept. 10 at the Saint Mary's Invitational in Livermore, Calif.
