Men's Golf Team Sits at Sixth After First Round of the Alister Mackenzie Invitational

Oct. 8, 2007

Fairfax, Calif. -- The Santa Clara men's golf team is in sixth place at the Alister Mackenzie tournament after one round of play today. The team is -9 behind strong performances by Jimmy Cacho (-6) and Jonathan Keane (-3). The Broncos are just four strokes behind the leader, Fresno State, and just one stroke behind host Cal.

Cacho had a solid day, giving up just one bogey on route to a 65 which puts him tied for fourth place in the tournament, just four shots off the leader.

Keane was steady all through the first round, notching five birdies and two bogeys.

Also scoring for the Broncos were Scott Travers and Tyler Ichikawa who are both even par after the first round. Travers had a rough start, bogeying the first and lost holes of hit front nine before starting off the back nine with an eagle. Ichikawa, a freshman playing in his second tournament started off +2 on the front nine before pulling it in to shoot three birdies on the back nine and was one under before a bogey on the last hole took him to even par.

Senior Tim Lynch was four over on the front nine before going -1 on the back nine to finish at +3.

Second round play continues today and the final round will be played tomorrow morning.
