Broncos Golf In 10th After First Round of CordeValle

Nov. 5, 2007

The Santa Clara men's golf team opened up the first round of the CordeValle Collegiate today, enduring the difficult course to sit in tenth place after the first day. The team's score of +13 leaves them in front of nationally ranked Washington, and just two shots behind Northwestern.

Jimmy Cacho led the way with a one-over par 73 today. Cacho was a steady par machine for most of the day and was at +2 before his only birdie of the day came in his last hole to put him at +1 and tied for 25th.

Three players shot a 74 to lead the team today. Tim Lynch, fresh off his second place finish at the SCU Invitational two weeks ago, was even after his first nine holes, but stumbled a bit, going two over on the back. Scott Travers similarly shot even par after nine, but finished two-over par. Jonathan Keane triple bogeyed his third hole of his back nine, but battled back to go -2 in the remaining holes and finished at +2. All three are tied for 34th.

Blair Myers was the last scoring player for the Broncos. He was +7 after 12 holes, but went one-under in the remaining six holes to finish at +6 and tied for 55th.

Shaun Pienkos rounded out Santa Clara's efforts with an 80 and is tied for 62nd.

The team will resume play tomorrow morning at CordeValle for second round play and look to move up the leaderboard.
