Women's Basketball Alum Addi Walters Hired by Minnesota Timberwolves of the NBA

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara basketball is no stranger to alums making it in the NBA. Hall of Famer Steve Nash is the current head coach of the Brooklyn Nets. Lloyd Pierce is an assistant for the Indiana Pacers after serving as the head coach for the Atlanta Hawks. Kurt Rambis has been a head coach, assistant coach, and general manager for nearly 25 years.

The next Bronco is attempting to start the climb to those ranks.

Former women's basketball player Addi Walters was recently hired as a video associate for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

"This job was appealing to me because it's another step closer to becoming an NBA coach," Walters said. "A lot of NBA coaches started in the video room, and this role allows me to develop and study the game at the highest level. Having a job that allows me to be around the game I love and put forward work that only involves basketball is a huge blessing, and is something that doesn't even feel like a job."

Walters will have a broad range of responsibilities including coding games and practices as well as working with the head video coordinator to provide film breakdown to payers and staff. She will also provide assistance on the court for individual workouts and team practices.

No stranger to the coaching side of basketball, Walters' father Rex is a former assistant for the New Orleans Pelicans and was the head coach at San Francisco from 2008-16 where he twice led the team to 20 wins. His coaching career spans nearly 20 years at the professional and collegiate levels.

On the court, Walters started her collegiate career at Cal State Bakersfield before transferring to Stetson as a junior and finally Santa Clara for her final season of eligibility. With the Broncos, she played in 20 games and started two while showing her range, knocking down 26 3-pointers. In her return home to the San Francisco campus that season, Walters tied a season-high with 19 points.

After a life of helping her team win on the court, she is transitioning to the sidelines where she hopes to join her fellow Santa Clara alums one day at the helm of an NBA team.
