Women's Basketball Has Duo Named All-WCC

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Santa Clara women's basketball had two players named to the All-West Coast Conference teams on Wednesday. Lindsey VanAllen was named to the first team and Merle Wiehl to the second team.

VanAllen finished second in the conference in scoring with 19.0 ppg while shooting 43.6-percent from the field and 41.2-percent from downtown while making a team-high 56 3-pointers. In conference action VanAllen averaged 21.1 ppg and scored in double-figures in every game but one. Overall, she scored double-figures 23 times with 11 20-plus point games and two 30-plus points games. She set her career-high with 32 points against Portland on January 22 and then tied it a week later vs. Pacific. VanAllen was Second Team All-WCC last season and All-Freshman in 2019.

Wiehl finished second on the team in scoring with 11.9 ppg and led the way with 6.9 rpg. She was right behind VanAllen with 54 3-pointers made on the season. The German native scored in double-figures 16 times this year with three 20-point performances. She set a career-high with 29 points against San Diego on February 5 and had a career-best 16 boards against Pepperdine on February 17. Wiehl was Second Team All-WCC last year.

The Broncos open the WCC Tournament in Las Vegas tomorrow at 2 p.m. against Pacific.
