Women's Basketball Downed by No. 19 BYU on Senior Night

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – No. 19 BYU ruined Santa Clara women's basketball's senior night in a 103-66 win at Leavey Center Thursday night.

The Cougars (24-2, 14-1 WCC) got going midway through the first quarter and all but put the game away in the second when they scored 29 points while giving up just 11. They were 20-for-36 from the field in the first half and even better in the second, going 20-of-30, with a stretch of nine makes in a row and 11-of-15 overall in the third. They finished the game at 59.7-percent while going 11-for-23 from deep.

The Broncos (14-13, 8-9 WCC), on the other hand, struggled in the first half, going 10-of-28 from the field, including a stretch of 1-of-10 right when the Cougars started to take over the game. They improved in the second half and finished the night at 43.9-percent and 7-of-21 from beyond the arc.

Paisley Harding scored a game-high 28 on 11-for-14 shooting, with 21 in the first half when she was 8-for-11. Shaylee Gonzales added 17 points and nine rebounds while Lauren Gustin scored 13 and pulled down five boards. Emma Calvert also scored in double-digits with 13 on 5-of-6 shooting.

Lara Edmanson led Santa Clara with a career-high 20 points and was 10-of-15 from the floor. Lindsey VanAllen and Lana Hollingsworth were also in double-figures with 14 and 12 points respectively. Danja Stafford led the team with seven rebounds despite battling foul trouble.
