Gevargiz Student-Athlete Spotlight (May 12, 2020)

AS A JUNIOR IN 2019-20: Named West Coast Conference All-Academic ... Entered the 2019 season ranked as the No. 58 doubles team along with Maddie Pothoff in the Oracle/ITA collegiate tennis Division I women's preseason national rankings ... finished the season with an 8-10 overall singles record and 13-9 overall doubles record ...  FALL: Went 3-4 in singles and 7-5 in doubles play ... five of the doubles wins came while paired with Pothoff and two with Caitlyn Frankel ... won three singles matches at the 128-player ITA Northwest Regional Championships to advance to the round of 32 for the second-straight season.  SPRING: Finished the spring with four straight singles wins to post a 5-3 singles record for the second most wins on the team ... went 5-1 at court three and 0-2 on court two ... in doubles, posted a 3-3 record, all on court two ... all three doubles wins came while paired with Madison Clarke.  

AS A SOPHOMORE IN 2018-19: Named All-WCC Doubles Honorable Mention and WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention ... Finished the season with a 15-20 overall singles record to tie for second on the team in wins and 20-11 in doubles to top the team with most wins ... recorded a nine-match doubles win streak (Nov. 4 - Feb. 24) spanning the fall and spring seasons.  FALL: Played in a team-high 15 singles and 13 doubles matches ... went 7-8 in singles and 6-7 in doubles play ... primarily paired with fellow sophomore Katya Tabachnik in doubles going 5-5 including advancing to the round of 16 of the main draw at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships in Stanford ... advanced to the round of 32 at the 128-player singles draw at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships.  SPRING: Posted an 8-9 singles record in dual matches and 3-5 in WCC action ... played all but one singles match at No. 2 going 8-8 ... had a five-match singles win streak (Feb. 9 - March 1) ... in doubles dual matches, went 11-4 all paired with Maddie Pothoff on court one ... along with Pothoff, took down LMU's No. 80 ranked tandem of Eva Maria Voracek and Vero Miroshnichenko (April 18) ... finished the season 3-4 in WCC doubles play ... played three singles (0-3) and doubles (3-0) matches each at the CSUF Spring Invite (Jan.18 - 20) that counted towards non-dual match results. 

AS A FRESHMAN IN 2017-18: Finished the season with an overall singles record of 13-13 and 12-20 doubles record.  FALL: Gevargiz kicked off her collegiate career with a 5-5 singles record…Had solid run during the Saint Mary’s Invitational before falling in the quarterfinals … went 5-7 in doubles action.  SPRING: Posted a 8-8 record going 2-3 on court three, 3-4 on court four and 3-1 on court five ... finished the year playing six of her last eight matches on court three ... in doubles play, posted a 7-13 record including 2-3 on court one, 5-7 on court two and 0-3 on court three ... picked up all seven doubles wins while paired with fellow freshman Katya Tabachnik.  

HIGH SCHOOL: Did not play on the high school team but played for the "No Quit Tennis Academy" and was a four-star recruit according to TennisRecruiting.net ... the No. 105 player in the nation per the website.

PERSONAL: Daughter of Michael and Tatiana Gevargiz ... born in San Jose ... spent time working with Andre Agassi's father and hit several times with Steffi Graf, a former No. 1 ranked player in the world that won 22 Grand Slam titles.
