Two Women’s Tennis Players Named to WCC All-Academic Team; Seven Recognized Overall
 
SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Santa Clara women's tennis had seven student-athletes honored for their work in the classroom by the West Coast Conference, the highest total for the program since at least 1994.  
 
Maddie Pothoff was named to the All-Academic team for the second straight year and Jamie Schroer garnered her first All-Academic team honors, with Madison Clarke, Caitlyn Frankel, Elvena Gevargiz, Lindsey Pesqueira and Katya Tabachnik named honorable mentions.  
 
Pothoff is a marketing major with a 3.785 GPA.  The senior entered the season ranked No. 76 in singles and No. 58 in doubles (along with Gevargiz) in the Oracle/ITA Preseason National Rankings.  Pothoff played at number one in the lineup all season in both singles and doubles and posted a team-high 11 singles and 16 doubles wins overall.  
 
Schroer, a sophomore, boasts a 3.949 GPA as a marketing major.  Paired with Frankel, the Bronco duo won the B draw consolation bracket doubles title at the Cal Invitational and was second on the team with nine singles wins.  
 
Clarke, who is working toward a master of arts in teaching earned a 3.947 GPA and tied for the team lead in dual match doubles wins with five.
 
Frankel, who graduated in the spring, had a 3.417 GPA in management and finished second on the team with 13 doubles wins overall.  This was the second time she was named honorable mention.  
 
Gevargiz, a junior, also earned her second honorable mention honors with a 3.371 GPA in sociology.  She finished the spring with four-straight singles wins to post a 5-3 singles record in the spring for the second most dual match wins on the team.
 
Sophomore Pesqueira has a 3.213 GPA in computer science and had five overall wins apiece in singles and doubles action.  
 
Tabachnik played at the top spot in the doubles lineup and tied for the team lead in most doubles wins in the spring with five along with Pothoff.  The junior has a 3.740 GPA in marketing.  
 
To be recognized, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade point average based on the most recently completed term, have at least sophomore athletic and academic standing with at least one year in residence completed.
