Women’s Tennis Play an Away and a Home Match This Week

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara women's tennis is back in action this week traveling to San Jose State on Friday before hosting Cal State Fullerton on Saturday. Friday's match at the Spartan Tennis Complex is at noon and Saturday's home match at the Degheri Tennis Center starts at 11 a.m.

The Broncos (2-3) last played on Feb. 16, defeating New Mexico State 7-0 in a neutral site match in Arizona.

"The past week was nice coming off a good win in Arizona.  We had a solid week of practice and it feels like we are hitting our stride," said Broncos head coach Ben Cabell.  "It's great to have Madison Clarke back in the lineup as it helps settle everyone into their spots."

San Jose State (2-4) is coming off a weekend where they lost a pair of matches against West Coast Conference schools, falling 4-0 to Saint Mary's and 4-1 to Pacific.  Three of the four losses this season have been against WCC foes, including a 4-1 loss to San Francisco earlier in the month.

Cal State Fullerton (6-2) had a win over the weekend against New Mexico.  One of their losses came against Saint Mary's, losing 5-2 on Feb. 16.

"We are familiar with San Jose State having playing them but not as much with Fullerton, even though we played in their tournament in January but we didn't play a lot against their players," said Cabell.  "We will have to see what kind of match ups we get as you never know until the day of.  It'll come down to execution and who competes better."
