Women’s Tennis Wins Road Match at UC Davis on Saturday

DAVIS, CaliforniaJamie Schroer won her doubles and singles matches and Giulia Hayer got the match clincher to help Santa Clara women's tennis pick up their first win of the dual match season defeating UC Davis 4-3 on Saturday.  

The match clincher came on court six when UC Davis' Kristina Evloeva retired due to an injury after splitting the first two sets against Hayer.   
 
Santa Clara (1-2) dropped the first doubles match but won the next two to get on the scoreboard first.  Madison Clarke and Jamie Schroer took down Yana Gurevich and Evloeva 6-3 on court three with the doubles point clincher coming courtesy of Maddie Pothoff and Katya Tabachnik.  The number one Broncos tandem won 6-4 over Sara Tsukamoto and Lauren Ko.  
 
UC Davis (4-3) knotted it up at 1-all when Kristina Breisacher handled Madison Clarke on court two, 6-2, 6-2 but the Broncos took the next three matches to earn the win.  
 
Elvena Gevargiz and Schroer won their singles matches in straight sets on courts three and four to put Santa Clara up 3-1.  Gevargiz beat Shirley Hall 6-2, 6-2 and Schroer was victorious over Gurevich 6-4, 6-1.  
 
On court six, the Broncos won their third straight singles match when Hayer and Evloeva split the first two sets 3-6, 7-5 before Evloeva's injury retirement.  
 
The Aggies won the final two matches after the match was clinched.

Santa Clara travels out of state to Tucson, Arizona to face the Arizona Wildcats on Saturday.  First serve at 1 p.m. PT.
