Santa Clara, Calif.-- Starting their season off on a strong note, the Santa Clara women's water polo team took down Cal State East Bay 11-5 Friday. The Broncos were led by junior Claire Linney who notched a hat trick in the season opener.
Linney also added a steal and two kickouts drawn to her three goals, one of which she got on a penalty shot after a 5-meter draw. Also scoring for the Broncos were seniors Emily Bonk and Christie Miller with two goals each, junior Amy Lamb with two goals, with junior Brianna Anderson and freshman Taylor Harkins scoring one goal apiece.
Senior Randahl Capurro was sensational in goal, allowing just five goals with 11 blocks and an assist.
Also playing well for Santa Clara was Elizabeth Perry whose tenacious defense set the tone for the team.
The Bronco's next game is Sunday, Feb. 3 at Stanford at 1 p.m.
