San Diego, Calif.-- The Santa Clara women's water polo team bounced back from a morning loss Cal State Northridge to take down Maryland in the afternoon on the first day of the Triton Tournament.
Trailing CS Northridge 7-4 going into the final quarter, the Broncos made a furious comeback and brought the score to 7-6 and had a couple of good shots on goal to try and knot the score, but Northridge's goalie made some great saves and held on for the 7-6 win.
Emily Bonk and Christie Miller each scored twice, with Amy Lamb and Elizabeth Perry doing the rest of the scoring. Amy Lamb had two assists to go with her goal and her sister Allie Lamb dished out two assists as well. Meg Zimmerman and Claire Linney mixed it up and each drew three kickouts. Randahl Capurro played the entire game in the goal and blocked eight shots.
Following that game, the Broncos bounced back and held off Maryland for an 8-5 victory. Bonk and Miller again contributed with two goals, with Miller drawing two kickouts as well. Perry, Linney, Taylor Harkins, and Brianna Anderson scored goals as well. Anderson had an assist, two steals, and two kickouts drawn as well. Amy Lamb contributed with two assists and two steals.
Capurro was outstanding in goal, blocking a season high 12 shots and notching a steal as wel.
The Broncos continue the Triton Tournament Sunday with their opponents to be announced.
