Five Broncos Earn All-WWPA Honors

April 29, 2008

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Western Water Polo Association announced the 2008 All-WWPA teams this past week and five Santa Clara student-athletes received honors. Leading the way for the Broncos was senior Elizabeth Perry who was named to the All-WWPA Second Team. Seniors Randahl Capurro and Christie Miller, along with junior Amy Lamb, received All-WWPA Honorable Mention. Freshman Taylor Harkins was named to the WWPA All-Freshman Team.

Perry was one of the premier two-meter defenders in the conference this year, and a huge part of a Santa Clara team that ranked fourth in the nation in defense. She started all 32 games for the Broncos this year and recorded 32 steals while surrendering only 14 kickouts. Perry was also one of the top-five scorers on the team with 19 goals.

Lamb was an offensive force for the 2008 season, leading the team in scoring, with 46 goals, and assists, with 51. With scoring and assists, Lamb accounted for nearly 40 percent of Santa Clara's offense this season, in which she started every game. She also led the team with eight hat tricks.

Capurro was among the top goalkeepers in the nation this past year, starting all 32 games for Santa Clara. She finished the season second in the country in saves per game and third in total saves. Capurro also averaged an absurdly low 5.4 goals per game allowed.

Miller was one of the best all-around players for Santa Clara this year. She was third on the team in goals scored (27), second in assists (25), first in steals (33), and second in kickouts drawn (34). Miller also surrendered just 15 kickouts over the course of the season and started 31 of the 32 games.

Harkins played in all 32 games this season as a freshman. She scored 17 goals, tops for the freshmen, and also recorded nine steals.
