Los Angeles, Calif. - An emotional, 3OT upset over LMU hours before their game against No. 7 UC Davis was too much to overcome as Santa Clara fell 8-5 in the second game of the LMU Invitational.
UC Davis scored four goals in two minutes in the first quarter and took a 7-1 lead in early in the third quarter. The Broncos tried their best to get a rally going, with two late goals in the third to bring the score to 7-3, but traded goals in the fourth quarter to bring the final score to 8-5.
Emily Bonk, Amy Lamb, Jenny Knutson, Elizabeth Perry, and Brianna Anderson all scored one goal apiece for the Broncos in the loss.
Randahl Capurro had another big game in the goal with 18 blocks, giving her 39 over a two-game span.
"It was hard to get right back into it after a hard fought game a few hours earlier," said head coach Keith Wilbur. "But it was nice to get that win earlier. Every win here is going to be a good win."
The Broncos will play twice more to close out the tournament Saturday. They will face off against Cal State Bakersfield at 9:40 a.m. before meeting their third ranked team in four games, No. 15 UC San Diego at 2:20 p.m.
