BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Santa Clara women's water polo team rallied to register two wins to bring the Fluid Five to a close on Sunday. With the wins, the Broncos improved to 14-7 on the season.
For the weekend, Elizabeth Perry led Santa Clara with 4 goals, three steals and a kickout drawn, while Kendra Betke and Amy Lamb registered 3 goals each. Randahl Capurro posted 30 blocks in three games.
In their first contest of the day, SCU stormed past Wagner 12-6. Lamb registered a hat trick for the Broncos as well as dished out three assists. Perry and Betke chipped in with two each, while Betke had two kickouts drawn and Perry registered two steals. Emily Bonk, Meg Zimmerman, Jenny Knutson, Brianna Anderson and Kendal Hildebrand finished out Santa Clara's scoring efforts. Zimmerman also tallied a steal, kickout and a penalty shot drawn on her goal.
In the cage, Randahl Capurro played the entire game with eight blocks.
Against No. 17 Indiana, six different players scored for the Broncos. Bonk, Anderson, Zimmerman, Claire Linney, Perry and Knutson each put one in the cage.
"It was a huge win for us," said head coach Keith Wilbur. "To upset Indiana at home was huge. It was a defensive grind and both Randahl and Liz played a great game for us."
Linney had a kickout drawn with her goal as did Bonk. Lamb dished out two assists for Santa Clara. Capurro compiled an impressive game with 12 blocks and a steal.
The Broncos return to action on Saturday, April 5 at the UC Davis Shootout.
