Men's Golf Finishes 10th at ASU Thunderbird Invitational

TEMPE, Ariz. - Freshman Derek Ackerman shot a 3-over 74 to lead the Santa Clara men's golf team during Sunday's final round of the ASU Thunderbird Invitational on the 7,002-yard, par-71 Karsten Golf Course.

Ackerman was tied for 41st individually, leading the Broncos who finished 10th in the 13-team field after shooting 35-over with rounds 295-288-304 at the two-day tournament.

Iowa State claimed the team title by firing of total of 20-under with rounds of 274-276-282. California was one shot back of the Cyclones.

Sophomore Hayden Shieh, who was tied for 10th with 2-under total of 140 after Saturday's opening round, posted an 82 on the final 18 holes and finished tied for 48th for the Broncos.

Freshman Michiel Eyre III was third among Santa Clara players, carding rounds of 75-73-76 for an 11-over total of 224.

Santa Clara has one more tournament prior to the West Coast Conference Championships, which will be held April 18-20 at Blackhawk Country Club in Danville, California. The Broncos will play in the Hoosier Collegiate beginning Saturday at Otter Creek in Columbus, Indiana.
