Shieh Still In Contention After Round Two of NCAA Men's Golf Regional

Hayden Shieh Bio/Stats

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Sophomore Hayden Shieh carded a second-round 9-over 81 at the Albuquerque regional of the NCAA Men's Golf Championships, putting him in danger of missing the cut to move on to the NCAA Men's Golf Championship finals.

The low five teams and the low individual not on one of those squads will advance to the NCAA Championship finals in Eugene, Ore., beginning May 27.

Shieh is 12 shots behind leader Jon Rahm of Arizona State heading into Wednesday's final round. But more importantly, he trails Texas Tech's Hannes Ronneblad, and San Diego State's Ryann Ree and Gunn Yang by four strokes for the top spot among players not on a qualifying team.

Of course, that can change on Wednesday with San Diego State and New Mexico just two shots out of the top-five, and Texas Tech just four shots behind fifth-place Texas A&M after 36 holes.

"Hayden's been a clutch golfer all season and there's no reason to believe he won't come through with a solid round," Broncos coach Rob Miller said looking forward to Shieh's final round. "He'll go out there, do his best, and see what happens."

Shieh will tee off in the next to last group on Wednesday, starting from the 10th hole at approximately 8:53 a.m. PDT.
