Round 2 Individual Results

STANFORD, Calif. – Led by sophomore Hayden Shieh, who carded a 5-under 65, the Santa Clara men's golf team scored a 284 (+4) to climb six spots on the leaderboard into 15th place after two rounds of The Goodwin, competed at the 6,727-yard, par-70 Stanford Golf Course.

Shieh birdied seven holes on Friday and scored the second-lowest round of the day with his 65 to move up 84 spots on the individual leaderboard. He enters Saturday's final round tied for 31st at 3-over 143 in the 138-player field.

"Hayden was awesome today," head coach Rob Miller said. "He drives the team. We can't afford to be without our No. 1 player. He feels bad for himself and the team when he doesn't play well and he wanted to make up for it."

As a team the Broncos had a 12-stroke improvement over yesterday's first round to move within striking distance of a top-10 finish. Santa Clara holds a three-shot lead over No. 1 ranked USC and trails 40th-ranked UCLA by a single shot. UC Davis is a surprising leader after two rounds and will take a 10-shot lead into Saturday's final round.

"We'd like to sneak into the top-10," Miller added. "That would be a good finish for us after a rough start."

Tyler Kertson was one of three Broncos to shoot a second-round 73 and is tied for 22nd at 2-over 142. "It's been a nice tournament so far for Tyler," Miller said. "He's starting to look like the player we saw in the fall."

Derek Ackerman and Evan McLeod also carded a 73 on Friday. McLeod overcame a quad on the sixth hole to record his second round score. "Evan had one bad hole and got a bad ruling. To shoot a 73 was nice to see. It's good to see him contribute," Miller said.

Michiel Eyre III shot a second-round 79 and his 156 total has him in 128th place. "We're hoping Michiel can make a contribution tomorrow. We could use a good round from him," Miller added.

Luke Vivolo of UC Davis leads the field by a stroke over Oregon's Aaron Wise at 8-under 132.

Final round action begins at 7:30 a.m. PDT. The Broncos will be among the final groups to tee off, starting their round at 1:20 p.m. from the 10th hole.
