DANVILLE, Calif. – Hayden Shieh and Michiel Eyre III both had a top-5 finish and the Santa Clara men's golf team bounced back with a final round 285 to move into sixth place at the WCC Championship tournament, completed today on the 6,783-yard, par-72 Blackhawk Country Club Lakeside Course.

The Broncos had a 25-shot improvement from Tuesday's season-worst 310 score and moved up two spots on the leaderboard to claim sixth place with their 881 (+17) total. Playing on its home course, Saint Mary's was the runaway winner with a 25-under 839, 23 shots better than runner-up Pepperdine.

"I'm really proud of the guys for playing hard and finishing off the year on a good note," head coach Rob Miller said. "We had two respectable rounds sandwiched around a clunker."

Eyre III shot a career-low 6-under-par 66 on Wednesday, the third-lowest score of the three-day tournament to earn his first top-5 finish. The freshman tied for fifth at 4-under 212.

"I'm really happy for Michiel," Miller stated. "He had a fantastic round and it was a great way for him to finish his first year."

Shieh was his usual steady self. He scored a final-round 4-under 68 to finish in third-place with a 7-under 209 total. Shieh paced the tournament field with 18 birdies.

"Just another solid performance from Hayden," Miller noted.

Jonathan De Los Reyes of Saint Mary's led from start to finish to capture individual medalist honors with a 19-under 197.

It wasn't a hard sell for Miller to get his group motivated after Tuesday's second round. "They all wanted to go out there and play well. Doing it and wanting to do it are two different things. They all came back today."
