Women's Basketball Faces Local Rival San Jose State Sunday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Continuing a stretch of five straight games away from home, Santa Clara women's basketball plays at San Jose State Sunday at 2 p.m.

Santa Clara is 28-23 all-time against San Jose State with the first meeting coming in the 1963-64 season. The last meeting came two seasons ago in Leavey when the Spartans came away with a 97-93 victory.

On Monday Santa Clara fell at Cal 73-58 despite having a lead at halftime.

THE BRONCOS
Santa Clara (1-1) is shooting 39.3 percent from the floor and 30.0 percent from beyond the arc in two games this season. The Broncos have picked up 16 steals and forced 35 turnovers while outrebounding opponents 36.5-35.0.

Marie Bertholdt and Lori Parkinson are both averaging 11.5 ppg. Parkinson leads the team with 7.0 rpg and Bertholdt has added 6.0 per game. Morgan McGwire is scoring 10.0 ppg to go with 6.5 rpg.

THE SPARTANS
San Jose State (0-2) has dropped games at New Mexico State and at No. 18 Arizona State. The Spartans are being outscored 74.0-46.0 in their games and being outrebounded 50.5-35.0.

As a team San Jose State is shooting just 27.4 percent from the floor and 17.9 percent from 3-point land. They have committed 42 turnovers in two games.

Dezz Ramos leads the team with 13.0 ppg and has added 3.0 rpg. Hallie Gennett is second with 7.5 ppg and 5.5 rpg. Jasmine Smith's 7.0 rpg is tops on the team and she is scoring 3.5 ppg. No one on the team has more than four assists but Paris Baird and Myzhanique Ladd each have collected five steals.
