Santa Clara’s Scott Lowe Fares Well in Canadian Pro Tour Event

CALGARY, Alberta – Not only was the first professional event for Santa Clara University's Scott Lowe a great experience, but the Calgary native made the cut and played through the weekend at the Canadian Tour's 2011 ATB Financial Classic in his hometown, which took place Thursday, June 30 through Sunday, July 3.

"This was my first pro event and it was a great experience," said Lowe, who will be a sophomore at SCU this fall. "The atmosphere surrounding the event was something new for me, but playing in higher level amateur and college events definitely helped me feel comfortable out there."

Lowe was terrific in the opening round, firing a 1-under par 70, and placing 30th among 156 players spanning 15 different countries.

"The first round I played very nicely and really had it going on the front nine.," said Lowe. "I gave a few shots back on the second nine, but still finished off a solid round.  The second round was a long battle in tough conditions. I managed to fight my way in to the clubhouse and make the cut. On the weekend I struggled a bit and could never get anything going but played with some great guys and got to learn about the life on a professional tour."

Lowe earned entry into the event by claiming one of five spots The Canadian Tour reserved for the leaders of a qualifier held at The Country Hills Golf Club (Talon Course) in Calgary. He is in the midst of an outstanding amateur career. As a junior player, Lowe represented his home country as a Member of Team Canada.
