Santa Clara Men's Golf Hosting Cabo Collegiate in Baja

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara University men's golf team will be hosting the Cabo Collegiate this week at Club Compestre Golf Course in Baja California, Mexico. The Broncos will be part of an outstanding 12-team field, who will play three 18-hole rounds Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 27-29.

The Nicklaus designed Club Campestre Golf Course (6,966 yards/Par 71), which opened in 2007 is spread across the foothills of the Sierra del la Laguna Mountains, between the mountains and the ocean.

"This is our second year hosting the event," said Santa Clara head coach Rob Miller, who has the Broncos consistently ranked among the nation's top-80. However, this season SCU will be playing with two freshmen, two sophomores and one senior the rest of the season. "The goal is to get these young players experience and for them to take advantage of that and work hard to improve as the season progresses.  We know we are going to take some lumps early but we want to focus on the end goal, improvement.  If we do this well, we hope to be competitive in the conference championship."

The event in Cabo marks the final event of the fall season for Santa Clara. The Broncos saw Scott Lowe, a sophomore from Calgary, Alberta, shoot a team-best 73-78-78 in Tahoe two weeks ago, while classmate Bobby Monaco posted rounds of 77-76-78. True freshman Colin Gunstream played well in final round action in Tahoe and will look to build on that momentum this week in Cabo.

"Gunstream had a breakout event with two good rounds and is gaining confidence," said Miller about Gunstream's performance last time out. "Also, Scott Lowe was able to shake off the rust from his bout with mononucleosis and is starting regain his form."

Results from the Cabo Collegiate will be available after each round on SantaClaraBroncos.com and GolfStat.com.
