WCC Men's Golf Championship Report: Round Two

2012 WCC Golf Championship – Tournament Central

HOLLISTER, Calif. –
Santa Clara University sophomore Bobby Monaco shot a team-low 73 Tuesday in second round play of the 2012 WCC Championships at San Juan Oaks Golf Club in Hollister. Monaco moved up to 29th overall and is one of three Broncos among the tournament's top 30.

"The conditions were pretty good today, up until the last couple holes when the wind picked up, and that is the toughest stretch of holes," said Bobby Monaco when asked how the course played on Tuesday. "That's been a battle for this team, we are just not finishing very strong. "But the conditions were good on the front (nine) and I was able to take advantage of that."

Bobby Monaco and senior teammate Ronnald Monaco (no relation) have turned in the best rounds for Santa Clara thus far, but the Broncos find themselves in eighth place as a group. Scott Lowe followed an impressive opening round with a second round 77, while Ronnald Monaco posted a 79.

"My ball striking has improved a lot and I gave myself a lot of good looks at birdie," added Bobby Monaco about his round Tuesday. "I did not capitalize on all of them but still came away with four birdies. It is a step in the right direction."

The Broncos will enter Wednesday's final round needing to make up ground to catch Pepperdine for seventh place. Nationally-ranked St. Mary's continues to lead the event and are in position to win its first-ever WCC Championship if they can hold a six-shot lead Wednesday.
