Santa Clara, Calif. – As golf's spring season heats up with the Desert Intercollegiate right around the corner, sophomore Scott Lowe (SL) took time out to talk with www.SantaClaraBroncos.com (SCB) about what he's been working on since last season, what the incoming freshmen have added to the team and his take on some of the courses the SCU golfers have recently played.
SCB: The Desert Intercollegiate is February 25th. What are you doing to prepare for the tournament?
SL: For our next event I have been focused on tightening up my wedge game, working a lot on distance control. I am also working hard on my putting and freeing up my stroke. It was nice to get a tournament under my belt so now I can really focus on sharpening my game up for the rest of the spring season.
SCB: What are your goals for the rest of the season?
SL: I'm striving toward a top five finish this spring. I want to consistently put myself into a spot where I am contending for events.
SCB: Which course has been the hardest to play? Which one was your favorite and why?
SL: The hardest tournament we've had to play so far this year was probably at Edgewood in Tahoe. The course isn't the toughest we play but that week it was cool and really windy. It was a fun test of shot making and endurance to stay focused out there in the wind. It's tough to pick a favorite course out here. There are some many great tracks in the area, but the Olympic Club in San Francisco has to be near the top of my list just because it's a beautiful course that is challenging and fun to play.
SCB: What have you worked on from last season to this season?
SL: It's been a lot of the same things. I am constantly learning more about the golf swing and I'm now better able to identify what I need to correct if things aren't going great. I've also worked hard on my short game and on becoming more consistent around the greens.
SCB: How have the freshmen added to the team?
SL: The freshmen are working hard right now to help the team this spring. They are both becoming more comfortable in college competition and are looking forward to playing more events this spring season.
