SAN JOSE DEL CABO, Mex. – The Santa Clara University's men's golf team continues to play well at the Cabo Collegiate in Baja. Bronco sophomore Scott Lowe followed up his opening-round, even-par 71, with a 1-over 72 on Friday and is tied for 10th among an outstanding field at the Nicklaus designed Club Compestre Golf Course in Mexico.
As a team, Santa Clara matched its overall score of 284 from Round One, which had the Broncos entering the day tied for fourth. Despite the same score Friday, SCU is tied for seventh heading into Saturday's final round.
"There was a little less wind today and the weather was really nice, allowing for pretty good scoring conditions," said Santa Clara head coach Rob Miller about Friday's second round. "With less wind the scores overall were lower than yesterday."
Miller has two underclassmen among the tournament's top 20, Lowe and sophomore Bobby Monaco, who posted a team-best 70 on Thursday. Lowe has played the par 4's at 1-under thus far.
"Almost all our players are feeling really good about their games," said Miller. "It's almost unfortunate that this is our last event of the fall because the guys are starting to play really well."
The tournament, which includes eight teams ranked among the nation's top 100, concludes with a single round Saturday.
