Men’s Tennis Recognized with a Pair of ITA DI Regional Awards

ITA Release

TEMPE, Ariz. – The International Tennis Association announced the 2023 ITA Division I Men's Regional Award recipients on Tuesday as the Santa Clara men's tennis program was recognized with two awards representing the Northwest Region.

Graduate student Arthur Neuhaus won the Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award for exhibiting outstanding leadership, as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements in a strong field that included candidates who were ranked top-five nationally.  Meanwhile the Broncos tennis team won the ITA Community Service Award for giving back to the campus and the community through tennis and non-tennis pathways.

Neuhaus, a two-time ITA Scholar-Athlete, graduated with a bachelor's degree in economics (3.369 GPA) and is currently pursuing an MBA.  He served as the team representative for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and was one of the leaders in the team's partnership with Team IMPACT which matches children facing serious illness and disability with college sports teams, creating a long-term, life-changing experience for everyone involved.

The three-time team co-captain also helped lead the team through the difficulties of COVID and the transition to online learning as well as the re-introduction back to in-person learning.

On the court, Neuhaus finished his playing career third all-time on the Bronco career leader list in singles victories and was named All-West Coast Conference three times in doubles and twice in singles.  In his Bronco career, he was ranked as high as No. 52 in the ITA national doubles rankings and No. 5 in the ITA Northwest regional rankings.

The eight-player strong Broncos team was involved in community services such as Team IMPACT and reading to children at the Washington Open Elementary School.  On campus, various members were involved with SAAC; SCU athletic department's Diversity, Equity & Inclusion committee; and Santa Clara University Athletic Diversity, a group for BIPOC student-athletes and allies.
