SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Passing showers delayed the start of the Santa Clara men's tennis twin bill matches on Sunday at the Degheri Tennis Center but it did little to slow down the Broncos who cruised to a pair of sweeps over UC San Diego and UC Santa Cruz.
Santa Clara (2-1) blanked UC San Diego in the first match, 6-0, and UC Santa Cruz, 7-0, in the second match. The Broncos did not drop a set in either matches.
Santa Clara 6 – UC San Diego 0
The rain delay forced the match to start with singles play and Santa Clara shutout the Titans (3-4).
Jack Pulliam got things rolling for SCU with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Jett Cole on court four. Arthur Neuhaus followed shortly after with a 7-5, 6-1 victory at the top flight. Christian Lerby extended the Bronco lead to 3-0 on court three before Santiago Hinojosa clinched the match on court six with his triumph over Charles Qian 6-4, 6-1.
Santa Clara 7 – UC Santa Cruz 0
In the second match, Santa Clara started with doubles play and was on the victorious end in all three matches. The doubles point clincher came from Neuhaus and Mann Shah who defeated Lucas Chen and Andrew Tjoa 6-2 on court one.
The Broncos rolled through the singles action capped by Christian Lerby's match clincher on court two over Sam Hall 6-1, 6-2.
Guilaume Dalmasso, Lerby, Jack Pulliam and Santiago Hinoja all won their two singles matches on the day.
NEXT UP
The Broncos head to Eugene, Oregon to face Pac-12's Oregon Ducks on Friday, followed by Seattle University on Saturday in a neutral site match.
