Meet the Future of Santa Clara Women's Soccer: Madison Gonzalez

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Gearing up for another soccer season, the Santa Clara women's team welcomes Madison Gonzalez from the 2016 signing class to the Bronco roster.

"Since I was a little girl, I had always wanted to go to Santa Clara," said Gonzalez. "I love what it has to offer academically and athletically. I felt it was the perfect fit for me."

"We're really excited to have Madison coming to Santa Clara," said Santa Clara head coach Jerry Smith. "She is a very quick player with good agility and is very skillful. She mostly plays wide, with her ideal position being wide midfield or wing. She will look to contribute to the team in her first year."

A native of the Bay Area, Gonzalez comes to Santa Clara after racking up 75 goals and 68 assists while competing at Maria Carrillo High School in Santa Rosa, Calif. During her run with the Pumas, Gonzalez led her squad to a combined record of 82-2-2, including four consecutive titles at the North Coast Section Championships.

For her accomplishments on the pitch, Gonzalez was named a First Team All-American in 2014. Additionally, after each of the 2013, 2014 and 2015 high school campaigns, Gonzalez was named All League Offensive Player of the Year and Empire Player of the Year for the Press Democrat.

On the club side, Gonzalez helped her team capture eighth place at the 2015 ECNL National Finals for the U-17 level after reaching the semifinals of the Nike Manchester United tournament for the U-15 level.

Rewarded for her high school and club success, Gonzalez has seen playing time with the United State U-15 team and Olympic Development Program U-18 team.

In her spare time, Gonzalez enjoys hiking, camping and art. She has also spent time in the community volunteering at her high school and referring at the Special Olympics.
