Women's Soccer Starts Spring with 8-1 Win Over Sacramento Storm

Spring Schedule

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's soccer kicked off its spring season with an 8-1 win over semi-pro team the Sacramento Storm. The Broncos and storm played three periods, totaling 120 minutes.

"We're happy that the team got off to a good start and that we got a look at all of our healthy players," said Santa Clara head coach Jerry Smith. "While we're certainly happy with the result, we know there are a number of things we still need to work on. We're looking forward to improving on our performance this weekend."

This weekend will provide a rare opportunity for Santa Clara as the team will play a pair of games. The Broncos play CSUN Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and San Jose State Sunday at 7 p.m.

"Playing two games in two days will let us get a look at everyone on the team," said Smith. "We have 24 players right now, which is more than a normal spring. This weekend will allow everyone a lot of playing time. We'll go with a split squad and everyone will play both games. The coaches will be able to get eyes on all the players."
