Three Broncos Join National Women's Soccer League

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's soccer had three players sign contacts to join the National Women's Soccer League. It is the first professional contracts for Megan Crosson, Andi Tostanoski, and Dani Weatherholt.

The three will join Julie Johnston and Sofia Huerta of the Chicago Red Stars, Bianca Henninger of the Houston Dash, Katherine Reynolds and Meleana Shim of the Portland Thorns FC, and Alyssa Kleiner of the Washington Spirit in the NWSL to give Santa Clara a total of nine players in the league.

"It's a great year to be a new player in the league because of the Olympic games," Santa Clara head coach Jerry Smith said. "All of the international players will be away with the national teams. All three of our former players will get a lot of playing time and will help their respective teams."

Weatherholt was drafted by the Orlando Pride as the 31st overall pick in the NWSL draft in January. She has appeared in two games and made her first start April 23 in a 3-1 win.

At Santa Clara Weatherholt scored 10 goals, including five as a freshman. Her biggest goal was the game-winner vs. then-No. 6 Stanford during the 2015 season. She also added five assists in her 86 career games.

In 2015 Weatherholt was named Third Team All-West Region and First Team All-WCC. As a junior and freshman she garnered All-WCC honorable mention accolades. She was also a member of the 2012 WCC All-Freshman team.

"Dani Weatherholt is already doing really well for Orlando," Smith said. "She's made all the travel rosters and played in most of the games. Her first career start was to mark Carli Lloyd, who scored three goals in the World Cup final. Dani brings so much to a team on and off the field. Their coach has told me that she's doing wonderfully well."

Tostanoski signed with the Seattle Reign FC but has yet to see game action.

As a Bronco Tostanoski was a 2015 team captain and started 84 games in net. She finished her Santa Clara career with 343 saves and a .805 save percentage while collecting 31.7 shutouts.

Tostanoski was Third Team All-West Region and All-WCC honorable mention in 2015. In 2014 she was named the WCC Goalkeeper of the Year and First Team All-WCC. She was also named to the WCC All-Freshman team in 2012.

"Andi Tostanoski has done really well for herself," Smith said. "She was undrafted and went into tryouts and beat out the goalkeeper they did draft. She's in a nice situation because their starting goalkeeper Hope Solo will be gone for a long stretch of the season at the Olympics. That will give Andi a wonderful opportunity and she's ready to play."

Crosson is a member of the Houston Dash and will join the team after graduation in June.

With Santa Clara Crosson played in 54 games, seeing action in every match since the beginning of her junior year. During her four-year career, Crosson finished her career with nine assists, including seven in 2015. She assisted Weatherholt on the goal against Stanford.

"Megan Crosson is in a slightly different situation because she didn't graduate early so she has been training here," Smith said. "She will probably play and start in her first week as a professional, which is really unusual. She really impressed in tryouts and earned a spot of the team."
