SANTA CLARA, Calif. - This weekend, the Santa Clara women's water polo team gets their 2007 season underway when they take on San Jose State University on Saturday, January 27th at the San Jose State Aquatic Center. The Broncos will play San Jose State twice, at 12:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. Then on Sunday, the team will travel to take on Cal State Monterey Bay and Hartwick at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., respectively, both in Monterey, Calif.

The Broncos will open their season ranked 17th nationally, as reported by the National Collegiate Water Polo Association in their preseason poll. In 2006, Santa Clara finished the season ranked 15th. Western Water Polo Association foes UC Davis, UC San Diego and Loyola Marymount also received national rankings of 9, 13 and 15, respectively. Though ranked 17th, Santa Clara edged out UC San Diego in the WWPA Poll and was picked to repeat their 3rd place finish from 2006.

Santa Clara will face two ranked opponents this weekend in #11 ranked San Jose State, and #12 ranked Hartwick. But with five returning seniors, including Katie Radvanyi, who earned second team All-WWPA honors in 2006, a cast of 10 other returning players, and six newcomers, the Broncos are ready to get 2007 underway. Action begins Saturday at 12:00 p.m. from the San Jose State Aquatic Center.
