SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's water polo team suffered their first loss of the SlugFest Sunday against WWPA powerhouse UC Davis. Amy Lamb and Brianna Anderson each had hat-tricks, but it wasn't enough as the Aggie hung on for an 11-9 victory.
In addition to Lamb and Anderson, Emily Bonk continued her strong play on offense and scored two more goals, bringing her total for the weekend to eight. Andrea Evans also added a goal, while Liz Perry had two kickouts drawn and a 4m penalty drawn.
Kristin Barnes had a busy day in the cage and had eight blocks.
"It was a tough game against a very good team," said head coach Keith Wilbur. "To score nine goals against them is very good for us. We did well on our 6-on-5s but we could have done a little better on defense. We know what we need to improve on for next week."
Next Saturday, March 10, Santa Clara will travel to Davis to take on the #8 Aggies again. The match is scheduled for noon in Davis, Calif.
