Broncos Upset #12 Hartwick 8-6

Jan. 28, 2007

MONTEREY, Calif. - The Broncos wrapped up their first weekend of play Sunday afternoon with a fourth quarter come-from-behind victory over #12 ranked Hartwick by a score of 8-6 in Monterey, Calif. The Broncos received strong offensive performances from Elizabeth Perry, who notched her first hat-trick of the season, Brianna Anderson and Katie Radvanyi. With the victory, the Broncos are now 2-1 following a commanding victory over Cal State Monterey Bay earlier today.

The match was extremely close throughout - tied at two after the first quarter, Santa Clara up 4-3 at the half, and then tied again 5-5 at the end of the third quarter. But then in the fourth quarter, after going down 6-5, Santa Clara put up three unanswered goals to seal the upset victory.

The Broncos offense was solid once again, receiving goals from Emily Bonk, Christie Miller, Brianna Anderson and Amy Lamb. For Anderson, it was her second consecutive two-goal game, and for Bonk, it was her third goal in as many games. Lamb picked up right where her sister Allie Lamb left off, adding three assists. Junior Elizabeth Perry notched her first hat-trick of the season, tying her with teammate Katie Radvanyi, who notched her first hat-trick of the season in the morning contest against Cal State Monterey Bay. Though Radvanyi did not have any goals in the afternoon match against Hartwick, her assist, three steals and three kickouts drawn were an invaluable contribution to the team's success against Hartwick. They are they highest ranked team Santa Clara has beaten in school history.

On the day, the Broncos were extremely pleased with the performances of Elizabeth Perry and goalie Randahl Capurro. Capurro added five blocks and two steals in the match against Hartwick to her 11 blocks against Cal State Monterey Bay in the morning contest. And Elizabeth Perry, who celebrated her 21st birthday in style on Sunday, had a strong defensive effort inside of 2 meters, helping her teammates to back-to-back wins.

Next up for the Broncos will be Sonoma State and conference foe UC Santa Cruz next Saturday, February 3 from Santa Cruz. Stay tuned to santaclarabroncos.com for official game times and match results.
