Feb. 25, 2007

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's water polo team (7-6) bounced back from a tough day yesterday at the UC Irvine Invitational and defeated WWPA foe and No. 14 ranked UC San Diego in overtime by a final score of 10-9. Brianna Anderson had a hat trick and Katie Radvanyi had four steals in the victory.

After Santa Clara took a 5-2 lead at halftime, UC San Diego battled back in the second half to narrow the gap to 8-6 at the end of the third quarter, and then scored two in the fourth to tie the game at 8-8 and send it to overtime.

Brianna Anderson and Amy Lamb each scored in the first overtime, and the Broncos held off the Tritons until the final minute of the second overtime when they got one back, but too little too late.

In addition to Anderson's hat trick, Amy Lamb and Katie Radvanyi each had two goals. Allie Lamb, Emily Bonk and Claire Linney each added a goal. Radvanyi also had four steals and a kickout drawn. Kristin Barnes was solid in the cage and had eight blocks and a steal.

Santa Clara will conclude the UC Irvine Invitational against No. 15 Long Beach State later this afternoon.
