SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's water polo team's four-game unbeaten streak came to an end Saturday with a 9-7 loss to the UCSB Gauchos as the Broncos got underway at the Triton Tournament. Despite controlling most of the game, UCSB rallied in the fourth quarter to win the game.
On offense, the Broncos were led by sophomore Claire Linney, who scored two goals, and added a steal and two kickouts drawn. Senior Katie Radvanyi had two kickouts drawn as well. Other goalscorers included Emily Bonk, Meg Zimmerman, Elizabeth Perry, Brianna Anderson, and Amy Lamb. Defensively, Kristin Barnes had a strong effort in the cage, making eight blocks.
"We played a good game. We were actually ahead for most of it," said head coach Keith Wilbur. "They (UCSB) scored the last few goals in the fourth quarter to win. We needed to finish just a little better to give ourselves a better chance to win the game."
The Broncos will continue in the Triton Tournament this afternoon when they take on Bucknell.
