SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The No. 14 Broncos women's water polo team dropped a tough 8-4 decision on Friday night at Malley Pool to the No. 18 Princeton Tigers. SCU fell behind 3-0 after the first quarter and could not make the comeback, despite cutting the league to one on two separate occasions. Four different players scored goals for SCU, led by Emily Bonk, who also notched an assist. Santa Clara is now 13-9 on the season.

Trailing 3-0 after the first quarter, the Broncos started their comeback late in the second quarter. With just 1:38 on the clock, Katie Radvanyi scored from in close with a shot over the goalkeeper to cut the lead to two. The goal was Radvanyi's 29th of the season. Just moments later, SCU drew a penalty shot, but Allie Lamb's 5-meter attempt was saved by the Tigers' goalkeeper keeping the score at 3-1 heading into halftime.

Keith Wilbur's team came out fired up in the second half and immediately cut the lead to one with a goal by Claire Linney at 7:09 of the third quarter. She received a pass in tight and slipped the ball into the net to fire up the crowd at Malley Pool.

However, Princeton came right back and scored just 19 seconds later to regain a two-goal advantage. The Tigers nearly scored again two minutes later, but Bronco goalkeeper Kristin Barnes made a big save by clearing the ball off the goal line to keep her team in the game. Barnes made eight saves in the game.

Bonk then brought SCU back within one again with a low shot to the near post off a great feed from Amy Lamb. Lamb notched two assists on the night. The lead was short-lived, however, as Elyse Colgan scored for Princeton 20 seconds later to restore the Tigers two-goal lead at 5-3.

Princeton pulled out to an 8-3 lead in the fourth quarter before Andrea Evans scored for Santa Clara with three minutes left to account for the final margin.

Santa Clara takes a day off on Saturday before traveling to Stanford on Sunday, March 25 to play the nation's top team, the Stanford Cardinal at 10:00 a.m. followed by a 3:00 p.m. match against the Maryland Terrapins.
