Santa Clara falls to #7 UC Davis 12-7

March 10, 2007

DAVIS, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's water polo team was in Davis, Calif. Saturday to avenge their Slugfest loss to their conference rivals. Emily Bonk, who scored eight goals last weekend, added two more Saturday, but it wasn't enough as the #7 Aggies took their second straight from the Broncos as the only WWPA team to beat Santa Clara this season.

Saturday's game wasn't quite the offensive performance the Broncos enjoyed last Sunday, as Bonk was the only one to score more than one goal. Other offensive contributors included senior Katie Radvanyi, Andrea Evans, Claire Linney, leading scorer Brianna Anderson, and Amy Lamb. Kristin Barnes had seven blocks and a steal in the cage for Santa Clara in the defeat.

Despite the defeat, Santa Clara's offense took advantage of opportunities given to them, scoring four of their seven goals with 6-on-5 advantages. The teams were neck-and-neck in the first half, heading to halftime tied 4-4.

"We played really well in the first half," said head coach Keith Wilbur. "We had some defensive breakdowns in the second half and they were able to build their lead, but we learned some really good things that worked well for us in the first half."

Next Saturday, March 17, Santa Clara (11-8, 7-2) will host Sonoma State and Cal State Monterey Bay at Malley Pool, with games at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., respectively.
