Softball Adds Matt Lisle to Coaching Staff

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Coming off the first year of West Coast Conference softball, Santa Clara softball head coach Lisa Mize has added Matt Lisle to her staff as an assistant coach. He will be in charge of coaching the hitters, recruiting, and camps. Lisle comes to Santa Clara after serving as the lead assistant coach at Cal State University - East Bay during the 2013-2014 season. He will continue to serve as an Associate Scout for the Detroit Tigers where he helps to identify and evaluate amateur & professional prospects in the Northern California area for the organization.

"It is truly an honor to be the newest member of the softball program at Santa Clara University," said Lisle. "I understand the values, traditions, and level of expectations that come with this position and university, and I look forward to being a part of the Bronco family."

"Matt comes highly recommended and is noted as one of the top hitting coaches in the Bay Area," said Mize. "Matt brings a wealth of knowledge in all aspects of the game and he is especially passionate about teaching hitting. He has a true understanding of the mission we have for the softball program and our student-athletes here at Santa Clara. Matt shares our vision and he can't wait to get started! We are elated to have him join our Bronco family!"

In his lone season at CSUEB, Lisle was the hitting and catching coach helping lead an offensive turnaround that saw the Pioneer bats go from seven home runs in 2013 to leading the California Collegiate Athletic Conference with 48 in 2014. The Pioneers were also second in the CCAA in conference SLG% at .455 and RBI with 156. The Pioneers finished the season ranked No. 36 in the NCAA in home runs per game as well.

Prior to his stop at CSUEB, Lisle worked with hitters and catchers at the University of Oregon as a member of the coaching staff that helped lead the Ducks to their first ever Pac-12 Conference title.

Lisle came to the University of Oregon after spending 14 years coaching collegiate and high school baseball. His previous stops include two years as the head baseball coach at College Park High School in Pleasant Hill, Calif. Lisle was named the 2012 Diablo Valley Athletic League (DVAL) Coach of the Year after his team went 11-1 in conference play. That season the Falcons advanced to the North Coast Section semifinals and finished the season ranked ninth in the state.

Lisle was named the head coach for Gallaudet University baseball in Washington, D.C. in 2008. In his first victory as a college head coach, the school set a school record for most runs in a game (30) vs. Christendom College.

He was named the 2007 Bay Shore Athletic League (BSAL) Coach of the Year as the head coach at Saint Mary's High School located in Berkeley, Calif. That squad posted the best record (23-1) and highest state ranking (second) in the school's 100-plus year history.

Lisle spent a year as Associate Head Baseball Coach at Patten University in 2006 after a four-year run from 2002-05 as the head baseball coach at Berean Christian High School in Walnut Creek, Calif. At BCHS he compiled an overall record of 58-28 and led the team to its first-ever No. 1 state ranking.

The Concord, Calif., native earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Management from Patten University in 2006. He and his wife Jessica have four children; Alicia, Chappie, Chase and Presley.
