Catching Up with Gianetta France

Catching Up with Gianetta France
By Lillian Malmberg '17
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara Broncos (SCB) talked with sophomore, catcher and first baseman, Gianetta France of the Bronco softball team about her summer and her love for softball.

SCB: What was your go-to summer workout during these last few months?

GF: I really like to run, so on the track I would sprint the straights and jog the curves for a mile or two.  Along with that I would throw in some bleachers here and there.

SCB: How and when did your love for softball begin? Have you always known that you wanted to play in college?

GF: I started playing softball in first grade and really enjoyed it.  I knew that I loved it at the end of my eighth grade year.  I knew I wanted to play college ball since freshman year of high school but didn't know if I could achieve that goal.  Once I hit my junior year I stopped playing volleyball so that I could achieve my goal and focus on getting seen by colleges.

SCB: What is your favorite memory from this summer?

GF: My favorite memory from this summer was when my best friend and cousin visited me and we were able to hang out and go to the lake with each other because we hardly ever get to see each other.

SCB: You are from Granite Bay, Calif., do you enjoy being close to home?

GF: Even though I only live over two hours away from home, I never go home.  I really enjoy being on my own and my parents are letting me experience life without them being there all of the time.  I do enjoy the fact that they are able to come to almost all of my games though.

SCB: What are your goals for this upcoming year?

GF: For this upcoming year I hope to really contribute to my team with batting and defense.  I also hope to meet some more amazing people that I can share this college experience with.
