Meet the Future of Santa Clara Softball: Morgan Modesto

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara softball head coach Lisa Mize has signed three NLI's for the 2015 season. Morgan Modesto, a corner infielder from Salida, Calif. attended Joseph A. Gregori High School.

"I chose Santa Clara because it wasn't too far from home," said Modesto. "I knew I would be getting many opportunities along with a great education. I enjoy the beautiful Mission, small class sizes, and small campus. After meeting Coach Mize and hearing her plans for the new stadium, all I wanted to do is be a part of this growing program."

"Morgan is a very vocal player on the diamond and really does a great job of taking charge of the infield," said Mize. "She is a big bat and offensive threat at the plate. Morgan will do great things as a Bronco!"

As a junior this past year, Modesto and the Jaguars posted an 11-1 record to finish as MCC Champions and advanced to play in the CIF Section playoffs. As a sophomore, Modesto captained her team to a second place finish in the MMC. She earned First Team All-League Third Baseman honors and First Team Academic All-League Third Baseman honors. During her sophomore season, she led the league with 30 RBIs and 11 doubles. She also finished the season with a .375 batting average and .637 slugging percentage. As a freshman, she helped the Jaguars take third place in the MMC and advance to play in the CIF Section playoffs.

Away from the field, Modesto has been an FFA Active member for four years and is an FFA State Bronze Emblem Award winner.

In her free time, Modesto enjoys spending time with her family, watching movies and exploring the outdoors.
