Cassie Padilla Reflects on Her Time Thus Far at SCU

Written by Alyssa Morales '17

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - As she wraps up her third year here at SCU, Cassandra Padilla (CP) looks back on her favorite memories and talks about her future. Santa Clara Broncos (SCB) caught up with Padilla to hear more about it.

SCB: How would you describe your experience thus far at SCU playing softball?

CP:It has taught me a lot including leadership, teamwork, and being able to fight for someone else by working hard on your own.

SCB: What changes have you noticed within yourself or your teammates/team as a whole over the years?

CP: Throughout the years I have been able to develop a better insight for the game and certain types of players. I beileve that coming in as a freshman I just wanted to go go go and play and practice. However, I never actually sat down and got to understand my teammates which in the end only affected the team. I find that when you sit down and listen to your teammates and help them with what they struggle in/ vise versa, it makes the entire team better.

SCB: What hopes do you have for the end of this season and going into your senior year?

CP: I have high hopes for the end of this year! We only have seven games left and I am confident that we will finish the season strong!

SCB: What is your favorite memory of being on the softball team?

CP: My favorite memory of the team has to be when I hit a walk off this year at the LMU game. It was the greatest feeling ever when the entire team comes rushing towards jumping and cheering and your heart is just pounding so hard with adrenaline.

SCB: What motivates you to play softball?

CP: Family definitely motivates me to play! From my grandpa to my five year old cousin, baseball/softball has been in my life for as long as I can remember.

SCB: As a sociology major, what do you want to do later on in life?

CP: I would like to work with kids with disabilities as a volunteer position but ultimately I would like to become a detective for either San Jose or LA county.
