Softball Falls to Pacific in Pink Game

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara softball fell to Pacific by a final of 7-0 on Sunday in its pink game. Micaela Vierra's mother Cathy threw out the first pitch. The Broncos are now 14-32 on the season and 4-8 in the WCC while the Tigers are now 17-33 and 5-7 in conference play.

Santa Clara returns to the field Tues., April 28 at 4 p.m. at San Jose State.

Briana Rios (1-10) started for Santa Clara on her birthday and picked up a loss in 2.1 innings. Rios allowed four runs on four hits with a walk and a strikeout. Amanda Delfino was 2-3 to lead the offense.

Dani Bonnet (8-17) started for Pacific and picked up a win in the complete game. Bonnet allowed five hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Sydney Lahners was 1-3 with a home run and two RBI to lead the offense. Cassidy Gustafson was 1-4 with two RBI while Alex Steinmehl was 2-3 with two doubles and a run scored.

Rachel Sellers was hit by a pitch on the first pitch of the second. Lahners followed with a deep home run to left for the first runs of the game.

Geenamarie Bonilla made a great sliding stop on a grounder up the middle by Sara Anderson to start the third but her throw pulled Jordan Newell off the bag. After a walk a sacrifice bunt put two runners in scoring position. Gustafson followed with a single up the middle to bring in two more runs and Rios was lifted for Ciara Gonzales with the score 4-0.

Steinmehl doubled to right with one down in the top of the fourth and Melanie Habib followed with a triple to center. An infield single by Toni Santos brought in the sixth run of the day for Pacific.

With one out in the bottom of the fourth, Breezy Bernard singled up the middle. Casandra Padilla was hit by a pitch with two outs and Jenna Krummen got ahead in the count 3-0 but ultimately hit into an inning-ending fielder's choice.

Amanda Delfino singled through the left side with one out and Ellie Fisher laid down a bunt single. The runners moved up on a grounder to first but a strikeout ended the inning with the score still 6-0.

Pinch hitter Chiara Biagini was hit by a pitch with one out in the bottom of the seventh. Santa Clara was unable to advance her and fell 7-0.
